Bipolar Disorder wannabee’s! an article worthy of its headline?

Why patients are saying ‘I want to be bipolar’ by Diana Chan

Is this an article worthy of its headline?

What? you may well ask after reading Diana’s article…

Can Diana tell me how many patients are coming forward purely as wannabee Bipolar sufferers?

How many actually turn out to have Bipolar Disorder of these so called wannabees.

How many actually have been encouraged to come forward due to improved awareness and if true! thank God as a result of the improvements with regards the stigma traditionally associated with being diagnosed with a mental illness.

How many of theses wannabee patients turn out to have a mental illness be it another condition displaying similar symptoms?

Forgive me Diana but from your very brief article I could not come to any firm conclusions regarding the premis or the relevance to the title of your article, subsequently neither could I understand what you was trying to inform me as a member of the reading public.

In fact I ended up being very confused as the one case Diana refers to is where she describes a woman coming forward presenting herself as having Bipolar Disorder and  as Diana tells us she did confirm this diagnosis at a later date, again what was the point she is trying to make, could it be only that she like many other mental health professionals dislike patients self-diagnosing? big deal!

I would go with the person who lives with themselves 24hrs a day and makes a diagnosis, over a professional who as probably spent less than a hour with someone and then comes to a conclusion over a diagnosis!

Diana must be clear when making her points and using titles which may if taken on there own at best be misleading and at worse do a great deal of damage to setting back the slow progress regarding the fight against stigma associated to mental health conditions.

We need more people whether ordinary or celeb’s to come forward and share their experiences without fear of being ridiculed of their condition made light of just to fill a news slot or a page in a rag of website.

Please remind me what was the point of Diana’s article in the first place? and what did she actually say that backed up the headline?

Both the BBC and Diana must have been scratching about for something to say on this day!  Perhaps they need to say nothing at all in future if that’s the best they can come up with!

Why patients

are saying

I want to

be bipolar’

Bipolar Disorder wannabee’s whatever next?

An article definetly not worthy of the headline?

As far as I am concerned the more with Bipolar Disorder and mental health conditions the better, perhaps we would get the attention and  necessary research & funding in mental health care that is well overdue! so bring on the wannabees for me!

Yours back to the campaigning
